A 3-tier Web-based Adaptive Statistical Learning Environment

Adaptive Web-based learning environments will play a vital role in the future development of standards-based national learning infrastructures. The importance of such infrastructures will escalate as nations increasingly integrate technology into their educational systems. The usefulness of these learning environments in both technical and pedagogical terms is incalculable. Educational systems, no longer restricted by local talent and resources, will be linked into national and global learning networks. This paper describes the design of an Adaptive Learning Environment (ALE) and, by extension, an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) using the teaching of statistics as a context. These systems, used in conjunction with a standardized database, will provide a framework for a global learning network.
